PDAs

With the influx of new technology, new tools are created to make our lives easier.  Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) are one such tool.  They allow people to efficiently access, organize, collect, store, and process various kinds of information and work with it on run.  That is in fact one of its greatest benefits.  Unlike an ordinary computer a PDA is always with you being small and compact in size.

While there are other types of portable organizers there are two things that make a PDA better better then the others.  First they are able to be connected to and communicate with many other electronic devices like a PC or digital camera.  Second the abilities of PDA software are extensive.  Both together make PDAs an effective and flexible tool.  Furthermore two PDAs can talk directly to each other via infrared signals also known as “beaming”.  This allows for an easy exchange of information which is especially convenient when working in a team environment where other team members also have PDAs.

As mentioned a PDA is capable of supporting many different types of software.  Some of the common PDA software includes but is not limited to:

• word processing
• spreadsheets
• games
• money management
• weight or fitness monitoring
• electronic book reading programs
• street map software
• power point presenters

Many PDAs even allow e-mail and internet access while others can prepare emails and send them when connected to your PC.  With a PDA you can do a regular backup of your PDA held data onto your computer.

Another added advantage is that, in combination with all the possibilities for exchanging information and keeping electronic files and software, PDAs greatly reduce the amount of paper you may need to shuffle and carry around with you otherwise.  Also due to the backup ability of your PDA to your computer, security-wise, a PDA still beats paper systems.

It should be easy to see how useful such a device is towards time management.  This is particularly due to its ability to reduce the amount of time it takes to complete tasks.  The compact size and instant exchange of information is invaluable towards freeing up your time for other things and effectively organizing your daily activities.
