Reasons Why We Procrastinate
Reasons why we procrastinate:
• Repulsive Tasks: this can be and not limited to, doing household chores, paying bills, these are all things we hate doing and wish we could just out off to the side and let someone else do them.
• Mental Mountains: When we see a big project we think to ourselves “this is a lot to take on how am I ever going to get this done in time and have it look good?” we get ourselves all worked up thinking we cannot do a project or a goal that we try to put it in the back of our minds so we don’t have to worry about the stress it will cause if you try to attempt the mountain that has just been handed to you.
• Emotional Avoidance: This is when our minds have suffered some kind of trauma. When we suffer a traumatic event we try to avoid anything that has anything to do with that event. This could be a death of someone close, and accident, a troubled past, anything that would make you not want to relive that memory. This makes us put things of just so we don’t have to feel the hurt that may be brought on by a certain project.
• Lack of Energy: when we become tired things that seem so easy to do seem so far away, we tend to put it off till the next day thinking you will have time to do it. When the next day arrives and you’re not tired anymore this is when you start to panic and think this is going to be hard to accomplish. Once you have done all of that stressing it makes you even more tired and next thing you know you’re putting off the project all over again.
• Fear of the outcome: some people tend to put things off because they are afraid of the outcome, for instance they don’t study for an exam because they know they are going to do bad so why both to study, or they may not go to a job interview because they know they are not going to get the job due to someone else being more confident than they are.
• Lack of motivation: Some people just don’t have ambition to do something that has responsibility behind it, they simply cannot be bothered. For example when they have to take the garbage out they just don’t have the motivation to take it out let alone take it to the curb for the garbage truck to pick it up in the morning.
