Managing ones time has many benefits. It can be characterized as a combination of time assessment, goal setting, planning, and monitoring activities. More structure and clarity is said to foster control over ones time. Furthermore the perception of control over ones time can increase ones well-being.
A study conducted by Haffner and Stock published in the Journal of Psychology was conducted to examine the benefits of time management training (based on psychological theory and research) on the perceived control of time, perceived stress, and performance at work of the test subjects. They found that time management behavior appeared to be a meaningful predictor of perceived control over time and well-being. Time management techniques such as prioritizing, structuring the workday, and monitoring increase one’s feeling of control and such an increase could lead to less stress. As they had hypothesized, time management training led to increases in perceived control of time and decreases in perceived levels of stress.
